Last Friday and Saturday, more than 50 developers met at the Media Quarter Marx in Vienna for the Copernicus Data Hackathon. This event was organised by INiTS, the business incubator of the local university, and its goal was to create and prototype concepts for innovative services using Copernicus data.
On Friday last week we joined the ESA Open Data Day for the conclusion of the MarsExpress Power Challenge.
Hundreds of people had joined the challenge around the globe with the primary goal to give more operational time to MarsExpress by predicting the thermal power consumption.
Tonight Yann is speaking at the Basel stop of the Swiss Space Roadshow. In one of the three presentations of the evening, he is going to talk about his experience working with ESA and the various career paths at Solenix. A panel discussion and a networking session complete this event. It will give the 60+ registered students and young engineers the opportunity to ask questions to representatives from ESA, the Swiss government, companies and academia.

During our latest regular Solenix Workshop we had a thorough look at Spring Boot and how it can benefit us in our current and future software projects.
Spring Boot allows creating rich application launchers harnessing the full power of the Spring framework. It allows us to create self-contained applications, which bring all the necessary utensils, including web servers, database connectors, etc. in a single package and a single process. As usual with the Spring framework, Spring Boot makes using sophisticated features much easier.
ESA just published a very nice blog post about the practicalities of spacecraft operations, on-call services, and how specific tools like our Überlog logbook solution can have a great positive impact on the daily life of engineers.
Tonight, 30 September 2016, hundreds of initiatives all over Europe will mark another edition of the European Researcher's Night. One of these initiatives is taking place at ESA/ESRIN in Frascati, Italy, one of Solenix's customers.
Last weekend, Solenix participated in the ESA basketball tournament, which every year gathers amateur players in teams representing different ESA sites as well as some of ESA's industrial partners. In 2016, a record 6 teams got together in the outskirts of Madrid, in Tres Cantos, to compete for the title. Solenix was represented once more as part of the ESRIN team, where it has been present since 2013.
At the beginning of September, we were in London participating in the 10th edition of the QB50 Workshop and the 8th European CubeSat Symposium. Solenix supports the QB50 project with both consultancy and further development on their baseline mission control system.
This week we are attending the EO Open Science 2016 conference at ESRIN in Frascati, Italy. At our booth, Solenix is showing the latest updates on the virtual globe API, WebWorldWind.
