Job Description

We are looking for an Atmospheric Instrument Engineer to provide expert support to the FORUM (Far-infrared Outgoing Radiation Understanding and Monitoring mission) Ground Segment Manager, on behalf of the European Space Agency (ESA). In this position, you will have the opportunity to cover all aspects related to Product Definition, Operational Processors and Production Model, from phase B/C to phase E1 of the Mission.

For this position, you will provide

  • Engineering support to the procurement of the operational Processors:
    • Preparation of documentation (e.g. technical specifications, product format definition)
    • Management and coordination of Industry in charge of development activities
    • Support to Project reviews, organised either by ESA or by Industry
    • Support to integration and validation activities
    • Management of review item discrepancies, system or software problem reports
  • Support to algorithms definition and review, and operation of the various supporting tools
  • Support to PDGS and Ground Segment Validation campaigns
  • Definition of tests plan and procedures, test results analysis and reporting
  • Ad-hoc development of tools for the accomplishment of testing and validation activities
  • Support to the definition of the Quality Control and Instruments Monitoring baselines
  • Support to the definition of the PDGS Commissioning Plan

Other desirable qualifications and experience

  • Masters’ degree in Engineering, Physics or another relevant discipline
  • At least 5 years of relevant working experience
  • Sound background in geophysical sciences and/or specific instruments relevant to the FORUM Mission (atmospheric applications and spectrometers)
  • Familiarity with ESA Earth Explorers Missions and instruments
  • Experience in instrument and data monitoring, data quality control, calibration activities, operational processors development, PDGS procurement and development
  • Programming skills in order to develop tools for the accomplishment of the engineering, testing and validation activities, with sound knowledge of containerization technologies and virtual environments
  • Knowledge of ECSS standards, and documentation and configuration control management techniques
  • Self-motivation, autonomy and the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team
  • Flexibility in dealing with day-to-day operational challenges
  • Strong teamwork
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Very good command of English, both written and spoken

Work Location

Frascati, Italy

We follow a hybrid scheme, which means you are expected to work two days per week at our customer premises in Frascati (or more if you like), and on the remaining days you can work from home.
