Solenix to Lead ESA's EO Downstream Engineering Support (EODES) Service

28 July 2026

Solenix Engineering Schweiz GmbH is pleased to announce the signature of a new contract with the European Space Agency (ESA/ESRIN) for the provision of Earth Observation Downstream Engineering Support (EODES) services.

The contract, awarded to a consortium comprising Solenix Engineering Schweiz GmbH as Prime Contractor, together with CGI Italia s.r.l. and Serco Italia S.p.A., has an initial duration of three years (2026 to 2029), with an option for ESA to extend the service by a further two years until 2031.

As Prime Contractor, Solenix is responsible for the overall management and delivery of the service, coordinating the expertise and resources of all consortium partners to support ESA in achieving its objectives.

The EODES service provides ESA a wide range of engineering support activities, including:

  • Technical support in liaison with external bodies such as CEOS OGC
  • Support for the definition and promotion of engineering best practices and standards to be applied across projects
  • Technical assessments of improvement opportunities across projects
  • Integration support across different projects into the larger EO ecosystem
  • Support for configuration baseline and change management
  • Technical support to ESRIN's Φ-lab, including assistance to Research Fellows exploring the application of emerging digital technologies to Earth Observation
  • Preparation of technical contributions for conferences, workshops and communications
  • Support for the provisioning of Earth Observation computing infrastructure for ESRIN's Φ-lab and Science Hub

Following a successful ramp-up phase, the service has now reached full operational capacity.

This contract further strengthens Solenix's long-standing collaboration with ESA and reflects the company's commitment to delivering high-quality engineering services in support of Europe's Earth Observation programmes. Working closely with CGI Italia and Serco Italia, Solenix looks forward to a productive, proactive and successful collaboration with ESA throughout the duration of the contract.
